 |
Unfortunately, our facility is still under construction, however, it has come a long way from the original garage / pole barn that it was. Below we have outlined not only what our facility currently is, but also what we hope and dream our facility will one day be. |
 |
Currently our facility is divided into 6 different catteries:
- Adoptables: This is the largest part of our facility. Each cattery is built from a cat's point-of-view and has many toys, comfortable beds, and jumps, for the adventurous cat. In the adoptables section, adult cats that are spayed or neutered are allowed to roam freely as they prepare for their adoption.
- Un-Neutered Males: This area of our facility is very similar to the adoptables section, except about half the size. It is for male cats who are still intact. These kitties may be adopted, but we keep them separate from the other cats to avoid pregnancy and because sometimes un-neutered males tend to be a bit more aggressive.
- The Kitten Area: This area was built specifically with kittens and nursing mothers in mind. The beds, chairs, toys, and even fencing is half-size. This area also provides nursing mothers privacy from the other adult cats so that they can care for their babies.
- FELV Area: Some cats have acquired certain diseases such as feline leukemia or feline AIDS. In these cases, it is essential that these kitties are separated from the other kitties who do not have these diseases because they are very contagious. In most cases, however, these cats live fairly normal lives and are able to be adopted to special families that will only have the one animal. If these cats are not able to be adopted, however, they will be allowed to live out the rest of their natural lives in comfort in our facility as we are a no-kill shelter.
- The Feral Room: Some cats have been wild their entire life and will either never be domesticated, or if they are domesticated it may take some time. That is why we created the feral room. This room contains all the features of the other rooms with the only difference being these cats aren't yet adoptable. However, until they are tamed and ready for family life, they will at least get to live in warmth and comfort and not have to worry about where their next meal is coming from.
- Cage Area: Although we are mostly a cage-free facility there are some instances where felines need to be put in a large cage for a short period of time. Newcomers will need to be quarantined until they are tested for feline AIDS and leukemia, kitties with colds will need to be quarantined until they recoup, badly injured cat may need a smaller, more stable area to rest, etc. These cages are all heavily blanketed and contain toys, food, litter boxes, and as many luxuries as possible.

Hopes & Dreams We hope to eventually add more windows to the facility so the cats can see the outside and sun-bathe. We also would like to open up areas to allow for some of the catteries to be extended into a fenced in outside area for the cats. Maybe one day we will even have separate buildings and even open up our facility to dogs. |
